Product history: The .30 caliber Browning ammunition boxes used in World War II were metal containers designed to store and transport linked .30-06 cartridges for machine guns such as the M1919 and M1917 Browning. Typically painted olive drab, the boxes protected ammunition from dirt, moisture, and damage in harsh combat conditions. Hinged lids with secure latches allowed quick access during combat, while sturdy handles made them easy to carry. Standard boxes often held 250 rounds of belted ammunition. Their durability and simple design made them reusable, reliable, and a common sight in infantry positions, vehicles, and defensive emplacements throughout the war.
