Product history: The Panzerjäger II für 7.5 cm Pak 40/2 (Sd.Kfz. 131), better known as the early Marder II, was a German tank destroyer introduced in 1942. Built on the Panzer II chassis, it mounted the powerful 7.5 cm Pak 40 anti-tank gun in a high, open-topped fighting compartment. It was created as a quick answer to stronger Allied and Soviet tanks, giving German units much-needed mobile anti-tank firepower. Although effective against enemy armour, it offered thin protection and left its crew exposed from above. Used on the Eastern Front and in North Africa, it was a practical but vulnerable wartime improvisation.
