Product history: SAS and LRDG sand channels were metal recovery tracks used by British special forces in the North African desert during the Second World War. Carried on jeeps and trucks, they helped vehicles escape soft sand, dunes, and rough ground. The Long Range Desert Group and SAS operated far behind enemy lines, so self-recovery was essential when no towing support was available. Sand channels were placed under the wheels to give grip and spread the vehicle’s weight. Though simple, they were vital desert equipment, helping raiding patrols stay mobile across remote terrain where becoming stuck could mean capture or death.
