Product history: The Mk 2 “pineapple” grenade was the standard American fragmentation hand grenade used during World War II. Nicknamed for its distinctive segmented cast-iron body, it was designed to break into fragments upon detonation, injuring or killing nearby enemy troops. Introduced in 1918 and refined over time, the Mk 2 used a timed fuse that allowed the thrower several seconds before explosion. Compact and easy to carry, it was widely used by U.S. and Allied forces in infantry assaults, trench clearing, and urban combat. Its iconic shape made it one of the most recognizable weapons of the war.
